Big boost to UHURU and RUTO from Githu

Wednesday August 1, 2012 - Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta received a big boost in his presidential quest, after the Attorney General Prof Githu Muigai supported him in vying for presidency.
Githu said Uhuru and Ruto are supposed to vie for presidency, saying they are still innocent until proven guilty by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The AG dismissed the local case challenging their candidature on grounds that it was unconstitutional.
He argued that the case should be dismissed as it conflicts with the Constitutional provision of presumption of innocence before trial and it was based on speculation and surmise.
Prof Githu said the court was being invited to enter into the arena of legislation that constitutionally belongs to parliament.
“The petition is misconceived based on total mispresentation and misapplication of constitution of Kenya and legal process at International Criminal Court (ICC),” Muigai said.
Githu said, according to our Constitution, Uhuru and Ruto are supposed to vie for presidency without any legal challenge.
