After a section of matatu operators vowed not to stop for inspection citing extortion by  Music Copyright Society of Kenya officials, the latter has now vowed to investigate its corrupt officers. "They were right to demonstrate because if they didn't we wouldn't have known what is going on. However, they should never bribe anyone because that is corruption and they are encouraging it," said MCSK interim chairman Michael Maganzo. "From now on our officers will be in uniform and have job IDs. However if you suspect that the officer you are dealing with is not genuine feel free to contact the authorities," Maganzo said.
Matatu owners had complained that MCSK officials stopped drivers on the road and demanded Sh3,700 on the spot and when unable to produce the amount they are forced to part with Sh500 to buy their freedom.  The official statement by MCSK was provoked after Mt Kenya matatu operators refused to negotiate with the music copyright society officials and walked out of a meeting before it ended. Bar owners and eateries in Kiambu have too vowed not to pay MCSK dues to unidentifiable people.
