State finally deploys police to Migingo

By NICK OLUOCH

Kenyan security personnel will now be deployed to man the disputed Migingo island.
The officers, comprising regular and Administration Police, are to be deployed to the island as part of an agreement of a meeting held in Nairobi last month and attended by Cabinet ministers from Kenyaand Uganda.
Nyatike DC Allan Machari confirmed the officers were moving to the disputed island as part of the agreement by the two governments.
But Uganda will continue to provide security at the island until the joint survey by the two countries is complete.
"The officers will be there to ensure that our people are safe," he said adding that all the logistical issues including accommodation while on the island had been completed.
He, however, declined to disclose the actual number of officers to be deployed, but added that the Kenyan team would be significantly higher than their Uganda counterparts which currently stands at 30. Nyatike MP Omondi Anyanga has lauded the decision saying it was long overdue.
