Leaders in Nyandarua County have differed with MPs from Central Kenya who are calling on Uhuru Kenyatta to back Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka in the next general election. The leaders distanced themselves from the MPs saying that Kenya is a democratic country and all those willing to vie for the presidency are free to do so.
During a visit by the VP to Kinangop last week, area MP David Ngugi led his colleagues in endorsing Kalonzo as the presidential candidate. Ngugi said it is time people from Central Kenya gave other communities a chance.
However, Ngugi’s sentiments were dismissed as personal during the Wahungu football tourney held in Ndunyu Njeru Kinangop and attended by several leaders. Former Kinangop MP Waithaka Mwangi who is vying for the seat of governor in the county said voters will determine the next president. “All willing to lead the country should seek the voters support instead of waiting for leaders to endorse them,” Mwangi said.
