The tussle over the ownership of United Democratic Movement has intensified with party chairman John Koech saying he would not agree to be ejected.
Mr Koech on Monday said he re-invigorated UDM using his personal income “after it had been left dormant by those who want to remove me now.”
The retired army Lieutenant -General cited the Ainamoi by-election in 2008 and in Sotik where he financed the party and UDM candidates nearly won the seats.
Mr Koech acknowledged that the party was formed by Mr Kipruto Kirwa, Mr Cyrus Jirongo and Mr William Ruto but “they left the party and he single-handedly worked for its revival”.
“I used a lot of funds re-invigorating the party especially during the by-elections in Ainamoi and Sotik and those who want to take it over forcefully should recognise that.”
He reiterated that he would contest the presidency on a UDM ticket and welcomed Mr Ruto for a democratic contest.
“I repeat here that I will vie for the presidency on a UDM ticket. I have rights like any other Kenyan,” he said.
Mr Koech was speaking in Getarwet, Bureti constituency during a fundraiser in aid of Getarwet AIC Church.
