Thousands of families in Kisumu's Nyallenda slums, Bandani, Dunga ,Obunga and Nyamasaria estates spent the night in the cold after flush floods hit the areas following the unexpected heavy down pour Saturday evening.
Locals are calling on the government to act fast and open the drainage system that they say is clogged and the reason behind the flooding.
They fear that in the prevailing conditions any more down pour is likely to worsen the situation.
Locals now want the government to expand the drainage system and the rivers leading to Lake Victoria in order to avert similar situations in the future.
They are also calling on well wishers to assist the displaced families and provide medication that will avert water born diseases.
Earlier reports to the effect that several people had been unaccounted for have been termed as unfound by the Kisumu central police deputy OCPD.
