Share/Save/Bookmark ODM has put mechanisms in place to prevent disintegration ahead of forthcoming grassroots elections, the party’s National Elections Board said yesterday.
The board chairman Eng Phillip Okundi said they have measurers in place to ensure that two factions will not be elected from one branch or sub b ranch. “We will ensure that there are no factions in branches as witnessed in the last grassroots elections. We shall let winners be winners and losers be losers.” Speaking during a civic education meeting for officials from Homabay, Kisumu, Migori and Siaya counties at Kisumu Social Hall, Okundi added: “We shall have returning and presiding officers from outside Nyanza to conduct polls here.
This is one way of avoiding conflict of interest.” Okundi who was accompanied by the board secretary Joseph Misoi, member Charles Welangai, Kisumu mayor Sam Okello and ODM official Rosa Buyo promised that the elections will be free and fair. “The previous elections board nearly tore this party and the leadership has agreed to keep off so that we have popular leaders are elected. We want an excellent election,” added Okundi. “We have embarked on the voter sensitization forums ahead of the much awaited party elections and we shall not let our members down,” said Okundi who was responding to concerns by Karachuonyo ODM chairman Jack Nduri who wanted assurances that the board will ensure that there will be no factions after the elections. The much awaited elections are scheduled for May 27-30.
