Corridors of Power

Share/Save/Bookmark That deputy PM Uhuru Kenyatta and assistant minister Peter Kenneth are uncomfortable with  sharing a stage is no longer in doubt. This played out in public during a Muranga county trade held at Gakoigo show grounds in Murang'a over the weekend. Kenneth had been choppered to the function and arrived before Uhuru. He addressed the function for less than ten minutes before it was announced that the chief guest, Uhuru, was about to land. Kenneth left the meeting after a short address and was gone by the time Uhuru arrived. The irony is that they both had the same message— need for Central province to reach across to other regions for sustainable peace and unity.

During a meeting with Permanent Secretaries last week, Prime Minister Raila Odinga asked why some of them were conspicously absent. Told that the Education PS Prof. James ole Kiyapi was outside Nairobi on official duty, the PM  PM quipped with a light touch, “It seems His Excellency has already hit the ground campaigning,” which sent the meeting dissolving into roars of laughter.

The Kenya Film Censorship Board is expriencing some ripples of unrest. Our moles tell us that there is some tension between the CEO and some of his board members. The former board members who were ousted by Information minister Samuel Poghisio are demanding to be reinstated after they successfully challenged their removal. Then there are the usual noises from within the board who are saying the CEO should be asked to leave to concentrate on his political ambitions!

Professionals from Mwala Constituency are seething at thei area MP Daniel Muoki who stopped at the eleventh hour, months of fundraising for sanitary pads for poor girls. The distribution was expected to be done yesterday but Muoki stopped it saying he had not been informed that Wavinya Ndeti, the MP from the neighboring Kathiani constituency was going to be the guest of honour. The poor girls of Mwala have Muoki to blame for not letting the function go ahead just because he was peeved!

Traffic cops stationed at Stoney Athi in Lukenya are reaping more than they are sowing. Yesterday, our tipster witnessed them receive — in the open and without any shame—a Sh2,000 bribe from a motorist whom they had stopped and allegedly found numerous faults with his VW Kombi. There is evidence of this and we can only ask the policemen to come clean, confess to receiving the bribe or get their goose cooked when the tape is posted for all the see.
