ODM raises Sh3million to finance campaigns

Share/Save/Bookmark A group of ODM MPs have raised funds to finance the Kamukunji and Ikolomani campaigns. The Star leant that some 50 MPs have volunteered to raised Sh3 million which will be divided between the candidates to boost their campaign kitty. The two seats were previously held by PNU. The group is led by Energy assistant minister Mahmud Mohammad.
Yesterday, Gwasi MP John Mbadi said the move is part of the party’s strategy to win the Kamukunji and Ikolomani seats. “Yes, it is true some of us have volunteered to help our two candidates because we need the two seats badly. We will join hands with them in any way we can,” Mbadi said.
Some 30 MPs from the party will pitch camp in the two constituencies from next weekend to campaign for Ibrahim Jonnie Ahmed of Kamukunji and Benjamin Shinali of Ikolomani. Prime Minister Raila Odinga will today lead an ODM delegation to Eastleigh, his first campaign for Ahmed.
Raila will officiate the opening of the Grand Royal Hotel at the General Waruinge Street in Eastleigh before addressing a series of rallies to drum up support for Ahmed.
Housing assistant minister Margaret Wanjiru has been chosen to spearhead the door-to-door campaigns in Kamukunji. “Everything looks good, we have intensified our campaign on the ground and we hope to conquer the seat,” said Ahmed. He is facing Yusuf Hassan of PNU and Brian Weke of Narc-Kenya. In Ikolomani, deputy prime minister Musalia Mudavadi will lead the campaign trail for Shinali. Raila will visit the two constuencies on the last days of campaigns.
