Corridors of Power

Share/Save/Bookmark The problems afflicting the opinion poll sector are not about to catch up with one the leading faces of the industry. The reason is that the youthful pollster- George Waititu - is leaving Synovate which has sent shivers down the spines of politicians. He was promoted just the other day, but now we hear that he is leaving the company altogether. Our tipster did not have an idea exactly what triggered the move.

Talking of opinion polls, we hear a number of politicians have been pooling cash to set up polling agencies ahead of the 2012 elections. This is why their Bill targeting the same agencies caught everyone by surprise. Corridors heard they found out that the business is not sustainable and is not a smooth ride as they had hoped.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni is an angry man. The man's anger was made worse on Thursday by supporters of opposition leader Kizza Besigye who pelted President Kabila and Robert Mugabe's cars with stones as the two leaders headed for the airport after attending Museveni's swearing in ceremony. Those in the know tell us that the government of Uganda is now planning a massive crackdown of opposition activists.

Still on M7, as the Ugandan leader is popularly known, Corridors is wondering who is in charge of preparing his official speeches because the speech writer has apparently been performing poorly when it comes to getting the correct spellings for various people. When he was at Nairobi’s Intercontinental hotel attending a public forum, Museveni complained about what he described as errors in his printed speech and blamed it on whoever had prepared it. And during his swearing in ceremony in Uganda on Thursday, Museveni encountered more errors in his speech, but calmly said he did not want to fire somebody during his first day as a president in a new term.

Remember an item about former Vice President uncle Moody Awori which we published last month? Well he has informed Corridors that we did not exactly get our facts right. Our tipster has told us that the former Funyula MP was taking computer classes at Institute of Advanced Technology. Uncle Moody has told us that he has not been to any class at the institute and the last time he was there was nearly 5 years ago. Oops! uncle Moody we got it sometimes and we say sorry.
