Share/Save/Bookmark William Ruto, the Eldoret North MP, may have declared his intention to run for President in 2012 but some people in the South Rift are not convinced he is serious. They think Ruto is using the Kalenjin community for his own gain. His close ally Charles Keter of Belgut had to defend Ruto: "Ruto has popularied himself but some individuals in South Rift are opposed to his candidature. We want those thinking that Ruto is not going for the top job to know he is prepared,” Keter told mourners at a funeral in his constituency.

The decision by Prof James ole Kiyiapi to openly identify with the new political party dubbed Restore and Rebuild Kenya (RBK) has not gone down well with some of his colleagues in the government. Three of them said they will ask the Head of Public Service Francis Muthaura to take action against Kiyapi whom they claim has broken the Civil Service Code which expressly prohibits civil servants from identifying themselves with any political party. Kiyiapi says there is nothing wrong with him preparing to contest the presidency or any other political office, and there are many colleagues doing the same.

Saboti MP Eugene Wamalwa does not seem to control his calendar. At least that is what some of his close associates are saying about the presidential wannabe. They say Wamalwa cannot make any move or attend any function without first consulting with some 'outsiders' — people from outside the community — who are now developing his campaign strategy. His opponents from Western Kenya have been telling people that the young Wamalwa is being used by the “outsiders” to fight local leaders.

We are told that the Flying Squad is holding a Toyota Prado stolen from a top policeman. The car which is parked at the Flying Squad's offices at Milimani in Nairobi is said to have been recovered from a bazaar on Uhuru Highway where it was on sale. We are told the car was in transit to Uganda but was diverted and sold to the top cop after its registration plates were changed.
