Water and Irrigation minister Charity Ngilu is back in the country after a month of treatment abroad for an unspecified ailment.
Mrs Ngilu, who had been at a London hospital, was expected to attend her first public function on Wednesday in her Kitui Central constituency, but did not show up.
According to a dispatch from the Israeli embassy, the minister was to receive an irrigation kit from ambassador Jacob Keidar on behalf of Tungutu Women’s Group.
According to family sources, Mrs Ngilu flew back into the country on Tuesday last week.
Long absence
There was no official communication from the government on the minister’s whereabouts during her absence.
Before she left the country, she had been admitted to Nairobi Hospital, but she is said to have checked herself out.
The minister has kept the public guessing on the nature of her ailment unlike her Medical Services colleague Anyang’ Nyong’o. (Read:Nyong’o: My battle with prostate cancer)
