PRESIDENT TO APPOINT ACTING CHIEF JUSTICE

The President will have to appoint an acting Chief Justice on or before Sunday 27th February, as a court hearings on the controversial nominations do not start until 2nd march. According to constitutional Lawyer Harun Ndubi, the presiding judge of the Court of Appeal or the principle judge of the high court are best placed to fill the position in an acting capacity. Ndubi however says the president does not need to consult the prime minister on this appointment as the position of acting CJ is not well-established in the constitution.
