Three PNU Members of Parliament in Nakuru County vowed to have Marende’s ruling reversed and accused the Speaker of being partisan.
The MPs Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru Town), Joseph Kiuna (Molo) and Nelson Gaichuhie (Subukia) claimed the Speaker rejected the findings of the two House committees after he realised ODM did not have support from the committees.
They applauded President Kibaki’s rejection of the ruling, saying he should not continue being held hostage by partisan rulings.
The legislators said PNU would not relent in its efforts to have the ruling reversed, and hinted they would support a motion to censure the Speaker and Prime Minister.
In what appeared to be a coordinated response to the Speaker’s ruling, the MPs held separate press conference where they accused Marende of being intolerant to the views of MPs supporting the nominations.
"His ruling was clearly partisan and out of order. It will not take the country forward, but has instead created unnecessary tension and divided Kenyans," Kinyanjui said. Kiuna, who was accompanied by five area councillors, led a demonstration in Njoro Township in support of the nominees and later addressed a rally.
