PM Raila hits out at enemies of reforms

Prime Minister Raila Odinga wrapped up his tour of the Coast region with a rally at the famous Tononoka grounds where he attacked ODM rebels and his PNU rivals accusing them of derailing the implementation of the new constitution. Raila passionately told the crowd to shun the PNU MPs who, he said, do not have the interests of Kenyan at heart. “The false prophets who did not want you to pass the new constitution are the same ones that are now derailing the implementation process of the new constitution that you overwhelmingly voted for,” said Raila.
Before the rally, the PM met with several delegations from all the six counties of the Coast at Wild Waters Complex. It is not clear what was discussed at the complex but unconfirmed reports indicate that the PM prevailed upon them to remain united amidst the storm that has recently hit the party.
Raila had lunch with the delegations at the complex before making his way to the Tononoka grounds at 2.00pm. Raila started his tour on Thursday where he held public rallies in Bura and Magarini in the North Coast. He then toured Ganze and Kilifi districts where he promised to drill new boreholes and repair the old ones to alleviate the drought situation in the region.
He said the government has set aside Sh2.9 million for the repair of boreholes in Ganze and Bamba, which are two of the hardest hit parts of the region.
At Tononoka, ODM MPs accused Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta, suspended Higher Education minister William Ruto and Head of civil service Francis Muthaura of misleading President Kibaki.
The MPs said the three are the people pushing Kibaki to make major decisions without following due procedures. “These three people want to bring chaos to the country. They want their own to be appointed to the four key judicial positions so that they continue with their culture of impunity,” said Voi MP Dan Mwazo.
Raila said the fight is not between him and Kibaki but rather between those who want reforms and those that want to stick to the old dictatorial order.
He said freedom of the country took blood and sacrifice to attain and those who want the country to go back to the old dark ages of Nyayo rule are not patriots.
He recounted the horrific ordeals that the second liberation fighters went through at the Nyayo torture chambers urging the new generation to step forward and protect the hard-earned freedom. “We laid the foundation for a better Kenya. We have mixed sand, water and gravel. But some of them now want us to use ash instead of cement to make the concrete firm,” Raila mused.
Budalang'i MP Ababu Namwamba said Kibaki has been "kidnapped" by those around him and is now being used to implement decisions motivated by self interests. “These three tycoons, who have kidnapped the president, have decided that they want to run this country using dictatorial means. We will not allow them,” said Namwamba.
Raila, who was accompanied by four ministers and more than 20 MPs, told the mammoth crowd to beware of PNU MPs who believe in ethnic  politics.
He said Kenya has 42 tribes and three tribes cannot isolate themselves and seek to lead. “We want one K for Kenya. We do not know the other Ks. We should not allow certain politicians to divide us along tribal affiliations.
The PM dismissed those fronting for a generational change leadership is not about age but about wisdom, principles and integrity. “Age is just but a number. We cannot allow ourselves to be led by people of no integrity because they are young. Kenya cannot be led by thieves who have grabbed land all over,” said Raila.
