About 40 MPs have demanded an explanation from Prime Minister Raila Odinga on his remarks that Kenya could experience more violence in 2012 if the ‘Ocampo Six’ are not tried at The Hague.
The MPs on Wednesday condemned the remarks allegedly made in Wajir on Monday. “We demand more details from the PM on this scheme.
The country wants to know how he has arrived at this conclusion and who will be involved in planning the violence,” the MPs stated in a joint statement.
The group PNU MPs, those allied to Eldoret North’s William Ruto and Kaddu’s Cyrus Jirongo of Lugari accused Mr Odinga of planning to destabilise the country before 2012.
“We tell him this for free, his plans to acquire power through the backdoor will fail,” the MPs said in a statement read by Tigania East MP Peter Munya at a press conference at Parliament.
They said the PM and his cronies must be ready to face the court as well. “He must stop pretending that he can profit from a process and a prosecutor who are brazenly partisan,” the statement said.
The group which included Cabinet ministers Prof Sam Ongeri and Yusuf Haji also supported members of the parliamentary committee on finance who disowned a report tabled in the House on Tuesday over the nomination of the Controller of Budget.
The MPs said a section alleging that the rejection of Mr William Kirwa’s was a result of unconstitutionality of the nomination process was false and doctored.
