Low turnout evident in city civic elections

The Komarock ward by-election in Embakasi constituency was marked by low voter turn-out.
Some of the stations had not recorded a single voter by mid-day.
The election was held concurrently with the Kirinyaga Central by-election and 10 other civic polls across the country.
There were reports of voter bribery, which the police dismissed, saying they had enough officers on the ground to check the malpractice.
Successful petition
The main contenders were PNU’s John Muchori, who lost the seat after a successful petition by Mr Hesborn Omondi, and ODM’s Eric Okoth.
Mr Omondi claimed that one of the contenders had agents distributing money outside the polling stations.
“I have reported to the police but this will not stop me from clinching the seat,” he said.
