State Officers to Resign

Now one more big question, will the current state officers, among them the president, the prime minister, cabinet ministers and mps relinquish the positions they hold in their various political parties when the new constitution is promulgated? Some are already demanding that all state officers comply with article 77(2) of the new constitution, that bars appointed state officers from holding office in political parties. But constitutional law experts say the provisions in the new supreme law only focus on appointed state officers, such as permanent secretaries, judges and parastatals heads, and not the president, the prime minister and mps who are currently elected state officers. Once again, Francis Gachuri has that update.
