Six die in Kenya accident

Six people died on the spot when the vehicle they were travelling in rammed into a military truck along the Makuyu- Sagana highway.

Several others sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital. The injured army officers were transferred to armed forces memorial hospital.

Traffic was disrupted along the busy highway as traffic police struggled to clear the scene of the accident.

The accident comes barely a day after another grisly accident claimed the lives of six people at Shariani trading centre along the Mombasa-Kilifi highway.

The driver of a Nissan matatu in which the victims were travelling in lost control and overturned.

Two passengers died on the spot while four others died on arrival at Kilifi district hospital.

Kilifi district hospital superintendent Ikbal Kandwalla said the dead included five women and a boy aged five years.

He said 10 other passengers were admitted at the hospital while others were transferred to the Coast General Hospital.

Kilifi OCPD Grace Kakai said the vehicle was carrying 21- passengers instead of the required 14. She said the driver was also speeding.
