One dies in Nairobi accident

One person died on the spot early Saturday after an accident involving a trailer and a taxi cab on Waiyaki Way, Nairobi.

Two others, who suffered injuries, were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital in critical condition.

The accident occurred at the Waruku junction, near Kangemi.

“We can hereby confirm the death of one person,” said Nairobi provincial traffic commandant Patrick Lumumba.

The taxi, which had four occupants, was dragged for 200 meters and the trailer blocked both sides of the road heading to and from Nairobi.

There was a huge traffic snarl up on the busy highway.

The three are believed to be members of the same family.

Eye witnesses, said the small vehicle joined the highway after underestimating the distance from the oncoming trailer.

Mr Moses Kabatha said the accident could have been avoided had the taxi driver been more careful.

“He underestimated the distance of the trailer therefore causing the accident,” he said.
