Feel insecure? Call these police hotlines

By Cyrus Ombati

Should you feel insecure during the referendum, you have the police at your call.

The Provincial Administration in Nairobi has circulated two hotlines it wants residents to call and report suspicious incidents during the polls.

Nairobi PC Njoroge Ndiragu said this is part of the measures taken to ensure security before, during and after the voting. The numbers are 0716 588 200 and 0731 926 078.

The lines will be attended to day and night and issues raised addressed promptly, Mr Ndirangu said.

"We have urged the district peace committees to intensify appeals for maintenance of peace," he said.

The PC asked residents to either send short messages or call when they see an issue of concern.

He said more officers would be deployed to hot spots such as Mathare, Kibera and Dagoretti.

Nairobi Area PPO Anthony Kibuchi told The Standard they want to ensure the city remains calm before and after the voting.

More than 63,000 security personnel will be deployed to 27,000 polling centres across the country.
