3 MONTHS

Mwai Kibaki has today asked Government officials mentioned adversely in the Subsidized Maize Scheme Audit Report and the Free Primary Education Programme to step down to allow for independent investigations.

In a statement issued from State House Nairobi, President Kibaki said the officials should vacate office for three months to allow for proper, independent and accurate investigations into the allocation and application of funds under the two programmes.

The officials mentioned include:

(1) Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Romano Kiome,

(2) Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Programmes, Ali Mohamed,

(3) Permanent Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister, Dr. Mohammed Isahakia,

(4) Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Prof. Karega Mutahi,

(5) Administrative Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister, Mr. Karoli Omondi,

(6) Managing Director, National Cereals and Produce Board, Gideon Misoi,

(7) Mr. Boit, Sales and Marketing Manager - National Cereals and Produce Board, and

(8) Mr. Langat, General Manager -National Cereals and Produce Board, who is currently on suspension.

President Kibaki once again reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to fighting corruption and assured of speedy and conclusive investigations on use of public resources.
