Google Releases List of Top Trending Searches in Kenya

Kethi Kilonzo and her brother Mutula Jr dominated the airwaves .
Google has announced its top searches for the month of July. The ranking gave an insight into the trending topics, websites and personalities in terms of the most searched.
Leading the list of overall trending searches in July was the local artist Rabbit’s song Ligisoo. Polyandry came in second after the track as a result of the debate on the Marriage Bill.
Kethi Kilonzo and her brother Mutula Jr dominated the airwaves as well as the search engines following the Makueni by-elections. Former Prime Minister RailaOdinga in Kisii was also one of the most searched political news.
According to the Google search engine, the most visited websites were Somali news website shabelle.net, a major source of news on the Somali civil war and developments in its capital Mogadishu.
Google Maps, OLX, Kasneb which just released the May/June examination results, and the Joint Admissions Board joined the news website as some of the most visited online. Women and the youth are also digging up more information on the Uwezofund, proposed under the Jubilee government.
Kenyans also went online to seek information about personalities making the TV presenter Brenda Wanga one of the top personalities searched.
She was joined by David Makali, the late Tony Ogunda , Eliud Owalo, the late Chelagat Mutai, Princess Farida, media personality Eric Njoka who was allegedly sacked for laughing at a woman on live TV, Agnes Ndetei and Lupita Nyong’o who made her debut in Hollywood in a movie staring Brad Pitt.
On the international scene, Amanda Todd, Rosalind Franklin and the royal baby born on July 22 topped the foreign personalities searched list.
In sports, the Masaku Sevens, Lewis Hamilton and Kenya vs Botswana were leading.
Every year, Google reveals the Internet Zeitgeist which highlights the top trends of the year through an exploration of the search queries received.
