Makueni, Kenya: Wiper Democratic Movement party has launched a major campaign to ensure it retains the vacant Makueni County senate seat.
Party leaders pitched tent in the county at the weekend where they campaigned for the late Senator Mutula Kilonzo’s daughter Kethi in absentia.
“We are going to abandon all other activities and camp here to campaign for Kethi ahead of the July 22 by-election,” declared Machakos County Senator Johnson Muthama.
If Kethi accepts to run on the party’s ticket, she will square it out with Jubilee’s Prof Philip Kaloki and Labour Party of Kenya’s Jane Kitundu.
Drama unfolded at a harambee in aid of Malivani AIC boarding primary school when a proposal by a Makueni women representative Stella Musyoka to replace the late Mutula with Ms Kitundu, who lost the county women representative seat, backfired. The crowd instead roared Kethi’s name.
There was more drama at an impromptu campaign rally at the Wote town bus park when Kethi’s supporters demanded to see her in Muthama’s entourage. “Where is Kethi? We want to see her!” they shouted.
