The Nairobi Committee on Appointment (CoA) has rejected two of Governor Evan Kidero nominees to the County Cabinet. The 10-members committee unanimously disapproved the appointment of John Kennedy Wanyama and Eric Mokua over allegation of canvassing. At the same time, the much-awaited list of nominees to form Kidero’s County Cabinet will be tabled today before the County Assembly.
Wanyama was to spearhead the education, youth affairs, culture, children and social services while his counterpart Mokua was to head the public works roads and transport docket. Committee said the duo were found guilty of canvassing for the positions among the political elite and county representatives.
The cabinet will come handy in the realisation of Kidero’s seven-pillar manifesto, which prioritised on a clean city, security, youth employment and uplifting the living standards of low income households in Nairobi. Wanyama’s predicament emanated during the vetting when the County Assembly Majority Leader Elias Otieno informed the panel about his lobbying.
Kidero proposed to the County Assembly for his replacement with Patrick Makokha. However, the decision was time barred as Makokha had not be vetted by the time the panel went to prepare the report on the suitability of the county cabinet. Mokua is a graduate of Commerce from Shijavi University and also holds a Masters degree in Strategic Management from United States International University.
Wanyama, a holder of a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Kenyatta University has worked as Group Credit Controller at Kenol/Kobil and as director of Strategic Partnerships at Silvertone Group of Companies. CoA recommended to the county assembly the approval of former city Town Clerks John Gakuo and Tom Odongo.
