President Kenyatta Sunday appealed for national healing, announced that he had forgiven those who may have wronged him, and asked for forgiveness from those he may have wronged.
The President said that it was time for a new dispensation as the country entered the Jubilee year. The President had attended the Great Jubilee Gospel Crusade hosted by Christ for All Nations at Uhuru Park.
“It is time for a new healing and a new dawn for our nation. This is a year of reconciliation and forgiveness,” said President Kenyatta, in his address to the congregation at Uhuru Park .
Deputy President William Ruto said: “It is not our first time in Uhuru Park, but it is our first time as President and Deputy President. We promised to come back to Uhuru Park and say thank you to God.” President Kenyatta and Mr Ruto were accompanied to the open-air service by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and Mrs Rachel Ruto.
Renowned evangelist Reinhard Bonnke will this afternoon close a series of crusades which have been attended by thousands since Wednesday.
The German evangelist, who has been preaching in Africa since 1967, will be stepping down after more than 30 years of spreading the Gospel.
The preacher is handing over the reins of power to 29-year-old Daniel Kolenda, who will also become chief executive and president of the Christ for All Nations ministry.
The Rev Bonnke, now aged 70, has held many crusades in Kenya over the years, drawing thousands of Christians.
Positive change
On Wednesday, he told Kenyans to await a positive change before the end of the day Sunday. Thousands of Christians from all over the country attended.
On Thursday, the Rev Bonnke called on President Kenyatta at State House in Nairobi.
“The last time our team was here was exactly 25 years ago to the month – in this same venue. Now a whole new generation of Kenyans are hearing the Gospel and experiencing the power of God.
We believe the Holy Spirit will cause this capital city to become an epicentre for the movement of God that will sweep through the rest of the nation.
The Rev Bonnke was born in April 1940 in Königsberg, Germany.
His successor Mr Kolenda is a graduate of Southeastern University on Lakeland, Florida, and Brownsville Revival School of Ministry in Pensacola, Florida.
