Two people died and another five were seriously injured on Sunday when a vehicle carrying Tana River County woman representative Halima Ware was involved in an accident.
The MP and her daughter Asha Rage escaped with multiple injuries and the former had to be rushed to Pandya Memorial Hospital in Mombasa County for CT-scan on her head, back and stomach.
Lost items
Ms Rage said they rolled seven times at Tiwi in Kwale County and the MP’s bodyguard lost his gun.
“It was just like a flash. The motorcycle appeared from nowhere and crossed the road. The car hit it and rolled several times,” she said.
Speaking outside the Pandya Hospital, Kwale County woman representative Zainab Chidzuga called on the Tiwi residents to return the lost firearm.
She also expressed disappointment with those who went to help the victims saying that instead of rushing them to hospital, some stole Ms Ware’s handbag, which contained Sh300,000 cash.
“How can you steal from people in distress? This is unheard of in a civilised society,” Ms Chidzuga said and urged those who had stolen her colleague’s Samsung phone to return it to avoid arrest.
She asked the government to zero in on the boda boda cyclists saying they had become a nuisance along the busy Likoni-Lunga Lunga highway that connects Kenya to Tanzania.
Msambweni MP Suleiman Dor, who accompanied the victims to Pandya Hospital, told those who stole the bodyguard’s gun to immediately surrender it to the police.
Homecoming party
“Two OCPDs of Kwale and Msambweni are combing the area searching for the lost gun,” he said.
Apart from the two who suffered serious injuries, Mr Dor said the rest who were with the MP in the ill-fated vehicle plus the bodyguard were in stable condition.
Some of those who died were scheduled to attend Garsen MP Ibrahim Ahmed Sane’s homecoming party. Mr Dor said the Likoni-Lunga Lunga road had become a black spot.
