Nairobi, Kenya: Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo has appointed 47 County Commandersin changes that saw Benson Kibui retained as the police boss for Nairobi County.
Among those appointed are 37 Senior Superintends of police, seven assistant commissioners of police, two senior assistant commissioners and a deputy commissioner of police.
Among the appointed are 13 women.
All PPOs, Provincial CID officers and their deputies have been recalled to Nairobi where they will join Provincial Commissioners as regional commanders and will be based at the NHIF Building.
In the changes, Eastern deputy police boss Edward Mbugua has been appointed the Mombasa County commander, Leonard Omolo goes to Lamu, Gideon Amalla (Machakos), Hamis Mabeya  (Nyandarua), Lilian OKembo (Trans Nzoia), Joseph Kine (Meru), Jecinta Wesonga (Nandi), Hassan Barua (Baringo), Charles Wasike (West Pokot), Johnstone Ipara (Tharaka Nithi), Solomon Kiragu (Kisii), Nelson Okioga (Isiolo), Charles Bitonga (Taita Taveta), David Bunei (Mandera) while Gabriel Musau goes to Homabay..
The appointment seems to go against the one planned by the National Police Service Commissionwhich had advertised the positions and sought that qualified officers apply for them in accordance with the law.
Kimaiyo had opposed the move by the commission saying it was against their norm in which he is the one to appoint the commanders and forward the names to the commission for approval.
The commission is set to meet on Monday to discuss the move by the police boss who is also a member.
The move is part of a directive that was given by President Uhuru Kenyatta who ordered that all provincial commanders be recalled.
