Corridors of Power

TUESDAY, JUNE 4, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
A first time MP from Western Kenya has let his new status and perceived power go to his head. Not only does he remind everyone who 'dares'  not recognise that he is a mheshimiwa,  he makes sure he announces who he is whenever he enters a bar. He was at it last weekend when he entered a local pub in Kakamega town. And to drive the point home, the man bragged he had with him a Ceska pistol which he had been issued with. When things turned nasty between him and his mistress, the newly minted MP brandished the weapon to remind her just who he was.

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko loves to surprise. Early Sunday morning, he was dropped in the Radio Jambo offices in one of his expensive SUV vehicle. After the interview, Sonko impatient to wait for his driver to return, he walked out of the Lion Place and jumped on a city centre bound matatu. Quickly recognized by the matatu crew and some of the passengers, Sonko quickly offered to pay the fares of all the passengers plus a little bit over for the crew.

A member of the National Police Service Commission has fallen foul of junior policemen after he went to a police station in the outskirts of the city and demanded the release of a suspect. The man shouted at the officer in charge of the station asking him if he knew who he was and ordering him to release the suspect. When the OCS refused, the commissioner then called a senior Nairobi police boss to instruct the OCS to release the suspect. For once the policemen refused to be cowed into submission and they ordered the commissioner out of the police station or face arrest.

One of TNA's strategists in the last election, Moses Kuria whose hopes of being appointed to a government job are diminishing by the days reportedly going into partnership with the British firm that handled President Uhuru Kenyatta's campaign, BTPAdvisers. Kuria will handle the firm's businesses in East Africa.
