Antony Chinedu: Me, thrown out? No way

The Government ruled out negotiating with deported businessman Anthony Chinedu on his return toNairobi as a condition for release of Kenyans held in Lagos, the Nigerian is fighting back. Seven Government officials and five crew of a jet hired to deport 10 foreigners, including five Nigerians, among them Chinedu, are stuck in the West African nation. The 12 have been detained at Murtala Muhammed Airport as Nigerian authorities claim Chinedu was not procedurally deported. On Wednesday, Chinedu was quoted saying: “We are doing Kenya a favour by marrying their women. I have never heard of a Kenyan man marrying a Nigerian. Without Nigeria’s patronage, Kenyan Airways would fold up”
On Wednesday, a narration of a plot by a woman who hired hitmen to kill her husband of 15 years stunned Kenyans. Investigating officers told the court how Faith Wairimu Maina paid the ‘hitmen’ a down payment of Sh40,000 and demanded for the bloodstained clothes of her husband to confirm his death before completing the Sh160,000 balance.
On matters of salaries, the State bowed to pressure from industrial action taken by nurses and unionisable staff which largely paralysed services at the Kenyatta National Hospital. Cabinet Secretary for Health James Macharia announced nurses will be paid in full as per terms of the Comprehensive Bargain Agreement reached in 2009 effective July.
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) also dug in with demands that Sh54 billion be set aside to finance the Jubilee pledge of laptops for primary school pupils diverted to pay teachers’ allowances. Knut warned of a nationwide
paralysis of public schools next week if the government does not provide Sh47 billion required to pay teachers’ allowances contested since Kanu days in1997.
On Thursday, the annual national prayer meeting was held at Safari Park, Nairobi, where President Uhuru Kenyatta led the nation in praying for sustained peace and reconciliation.
In an a ttempt to quel claims devolution is under threat, President Uhuru Kenyatta met governors during the National and County Government Coordination Summit, where he promised to uphold the new Constitution.
