Friday, the 1st of March 2013 - Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party has released a terse statement to newsrooms denying that the Vice President is on the party’s nomination list.
The denial comes one day after many news outlets ran with the story that Kalonzo’s name is number one on the list of those Wiper would nominate to Parliament. The news reports cast doubt on Kalonzo’s faith that the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) would win the upcoming elections.
The VP’s Press Secretary Kaplich Barsito has however now clarified the matter saying Wiper’s final list to the IEBC does not include the VP’s name after it was initially included by mistake;
“The list submitted and confirmed to us by the IEBC does not include the name of the Vice President and Wiper leader,’ read the statement.
“We therefore demand IEBC to publish the correct nominees list as forwarded by Wiper Secretary General Hon. Mutula Kilonzo.”
Others who are on Wiper’s nomination list are Bishop Robert Mutemi, Hellen Ndeti, Gideon Ndambuki and Sammy Mbova.
Wiper’s current troubles mirror what previously happened to the Amani Coalition pair of Musalia Mudavadi and his running mate Jeremiah Kioni when it was discovered that they had been included in UDF’s nomination list.
