Mudavadi confident of smooth transition

By PETER ATSIAYA and ERIC LUNGAI
After grueling campaigns, Amani presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi spent part of his Sunday at a Sabatia church.
Mudavadi asked followers of all faiths to pray for a smooth transition so that the country can forge ahead and get back its lost glory as a peace-loving nation.
“As we prepare to cast our votes, let us hold our hands together, pray for each other so that we can remain united as a country,” said Mudavadi. The Deputy Prime Minister, accompanied by his wife Tessy, attended prayers at Chamakanga Friends Church before he retreated to his home. But his home was not as quiet as the DPM expected as politicians and supporters streamed in to greet his family.
“I intended to keep off the political mood by confining myself at my home. But the political mood is far from me because my political friends and supporters are flocking to share the day with me,” Mudavadi told The Standard team that visited him yesterday.
He added all is well with him after completing his campaigns and he was waiting for today to cast his vote. The DPM added that he used the opportunity to call Amani Alliance candidates across the Western region to find out how they were fairing on after completing the official campaigns.
“I have been calling our candidates inquiring about their progress as we move closer to elections day,” he explained. He added: “I have to monitor their performance and see areas where we can make last-minute interventions to ensure that Amani rules in the region.”
He added the new Constitution had revolutionalised the country and fresh structures of governance need to kick off with ease. The former Local Government Minister noted that this could be achieved if transition was smooth and peaceful.
