Corridors of Power

FRIDAY, MARCH 22, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
The wives of a governor-elect nearly came to blows in an upscale shopping mall in one of the major towns in Western Kenya. It is said the wives— both legally married to the man—have been experiencing some serious problems since their husband was elected the governor of the county. It seems that both of them want to be recognized as the county's "first lady' and are not sure who their husband will chose. The altercation was so bad that only the intervention of onlookers stopped the two women from coming to blows. Maybe our polygamous governor-elect should take a leaf from South Africa's President Jacob Zuma who has been married six times and currently has four wives or even heed the advise of presidential candidate Abduba Dida who so eloquently explained how he ensures there is no conflict or jealousy among his three wives!

The long campaigns have certainly taken a toll on the finances of most politicians. Recently spotted in a popular pub in the city were three MPs and a senator who were each nursing a bottle of beer. The three MMPs who were known to be overly generous when it came to buying 'rounds of drinks however expensive were slightly subdued when they invited a journalist to join them and offered to buy him a drink. When the man went ahead to order his usual whisky and water, the four politicians became a bit agitated when they saw the bill. They were quite relieved when the man paid for his drink and left.

Many careers which were hinged on the outcome of the just concluded presidential elections have been thrown off course or put on hold following the challenge of the results. Quite a few people, including some journalists, who were closely involved in the campaigns of either of the two main presidential contenders are hoping the Supreme Court decision goes their way as this will guarantee them a job in the public service.
