UHURU KENYATTA’s family under fire over squatters’ land as SHABAN tells off BETH MUGO in Taita Taveta

Friday February 22, 2013 – A row is brewing over the distribution and legality of the 4,000 acres of land allegedly donated by the Kenyatta family to the squatters in Taita Taveta County.

While speaking yesterday, immediate former Taita Taveta MP Naomi Shaban said that the process has stalled since the number of squatters demanding for the share of the land has increased tremendously rendering it impossible to continue.

She criticized the Public Health Minister Beth Mugo over her recent statement that the land is being sub-divided saying the Minister does not understand land issues in Taita Taveta and should therefore keep off.

However, there is another angle to this with leaders in Taveta District divided on whether the land in question was legally given to squatters by Kenyatta family.

Led by Stephen Odiaga, a Parliamentary aspirant for Taveta and a Mombasa based lawyer, a section of Taveta leaders are now accusing the Kenyatta family for not being honest with the squatters saying the land the family donated is under lease and cannot be given out without following due process.

The leaders want the Kenyatta family not to blindfold squatters with such gestures of charity but come out clean about the legality of the land in question.
