The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) presidential candidate Raila Odinga took his campaigns to Garissa town Wednesday where he promised inclusivity in national affairs.
Addressing a rally at the Garissa Primary School grounds, the presidential hopeful said area residents should not feel marginalised.
"I want to assure you that the Cord government will be for all people and not based on any particular tribe, we will ensure that this region feels part of the country and I promise a lot will be achieved," he said.
The Prime Minister said that Garissa can be a food basket and has the potential to produce a lot and that Cord will prioritise development of the expansive County.
The Cord torchbearer said that pumping water from Tana River is vital to the economic growth of the people and his government is committed to ensure that farming takes a deep root in the pastoralist region.
“We can pump water from the Tana River which passes just near you, and this would help in the development of this region and everybody will have everything to smile about after tremendous success”, he said.
Mr Odinga was accompanied by former Kangundo MP Johstone Muthama, Garissa Senate seat candidate Farah Maalim and other candidates for various elective seats.
Mr Muthama said Mr Odinga was best placed to lead the nation since his track record was impressive.
“Let me assure you that Raila is the only man who has everything that could make Kenya a better nation owing to his seasoned leadership and good track record. We don’t want us to elect leaders who pretend to deliver to Kenyans but are out to confuse us," he said.
Mr Muthama said the Jubilee alliance will not deliver saying that Uhuru Kenyatta has nothing to offer to Kenyans.
Mr Maalim drummed up support for Mr Odinga saying he was a leader Kenya should embrace.
"We need honest leaders who live by their word and would do whatever they promise to do, and Raila Odinga is such a person whom we all know and acknowledge his work," he said.
Mr Maalim revisited the historical injustices meted out to north-eastern people pointing to the Wagalla massacre of the 1980s and said the Cord government under the leadership of Raila Odinga will probe the matter and the perpetrators brought to justice.
He, however, took issue with Mr Kenyatta's candidature saying he was a "water melon" and that he cannot be trusted with leadership of the country.
