ODM’s TROUBLES in Mombasa POLITICS as KALONZO says NO to JOHO

Sunday, the 10th of February 2013 -A spokesman for Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has rejected claims that the No.2 man in the CORD alliance endorsed ODM’s candidate for the Mombasa County governor candidate Ali Hassan Joho while speaking at a rally in Malindi.

The spokesman Kaplich Barsito said that the VP’s words had been taken out of their appropriate context;

“The VP was just responding to what Mr Joho had said at the rally but he didn’t endorse him as the Mombasa governor and this should not be used to mean otherwise,” he said.

Barsito’s attempt at damage control comes after several candidates from the VP’s Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) and some supporters expressed anger and frustration that their party leader would back a candidate who is running on another party ticket.

Wiper has fielded its own candidate in the race Mombasa gubernatorial Mr Suleiman Shahbal.

Meanwhile it has emerged that members of the Somali community are divided on who to support between Joho and Shahbal. At a press conference yesterday a Mr.Mohamed Hassan Dahir speaking on behalf of Somali youths said that none of them had authorized anyone to speak on behalf of the community;

“We cannot let certain individuals to use our community for selfish interests. That is why we are raising a red flag to protest the meeting with one of those seeking the governor seat," he said.
