Corridors of Power

Talk of threats and intimidation during these political times! A well-known TNA senate candidate from central region recently told all those who won the party’s ticket to vie as councilors not to dare attend any political rally or meeting organized by any other party including those affiliated to TNA and are in Jubilee coalition like URP and Narc. The moneyed man told the about 30 TNA candidates that he will thoroughly deal with any aspirant who will try to go against the directive. “I am going to kick you if you attend such meetings,”said the man who is a former member of the Tenth Parliament. Some of those he was threatened have vowed to campaign against him and ensure he is defeated during the forthcoming elections.

Still on politics, after their candidate failed to clinch the TNA ticket for the newly created Gilgil constituency parliamentary seat in Nakuru County, a group of moneyed businessmen are reportedly using the police to intimidate the man who got the ticket. This group has now vowed to use its money and influence to campaign for their candidate who decamped to a little known party just so his name is on the ballot paper.

And now to the prudes....two female journalists based in Mombasa were ordered to leave the front row of an event attended by the President. Reason? His minders felt that their hemlines were 'too short' and were likely to be a distraction when the President and his entourage arrived. The 'too short' hemline was just about two inches above the knee!

Some “owners” of little known parties which issued nomination certificates to those who defected from major parties after either being defeated or rigged out during the nominations are smiling all the way to the bank. Having dished out nomination certificate at will to any aspirant who was ready to pay the nomination fee, the party officials are happy that their banks accounts are now reflecting healthy figures. One of the officials, who is also a candidate in the March elections was overheard saying he now has enough money to carry out his own campaigns!
