Ruto confident URP will win parlimentary seats

By Sammy Jakaa
United Republican Party (URP) leader William Ruto has expressed confidence his party will be in the next government.
Speaking in Malaba during a tour of Teso North and South constituencies, Ruto said URP was the party to watch as it enjoys national support.
He exuded confidence that URP would get at least 110 MPs in the next Parliament.
The Eldoret North MP urged Malaba residents to support him if they wanted to see change.
“We will be in the next Government and anyone who is not in the URP wagon will be in the opposition next year. We are sure of more than 60 parliamentary seats from Rift Valley alone,” he said.
Ruto urged Kenyans to elect development conscious leaders and reject all presidential aspirants who are in the Government, arguing that they had failed to prove to Kenyans that they can perform if elected president.
“We should not repeat the past mistakes of voting in leaders on tribal or party lines. Kenya needs a leadership change for it to develop because some leaders have been in high positions in the Government but they have failed to initiate development. They should not be allowed to lead this country,” he said.
The URP leader further asked Kenyans to vet all candidates based on their track records.
Transform agriculture
Ruto urged Kenyans not to focus on parties but look for personalities with leadership qualities that are capable to move the country forward.
The Eldoret North MP also pledged to transform the agricultural sector so as to improve the economy of the country.
Ruto promised that his Government would work to ensure prices of fertiliser are lowered by over 50 per cent.
URP hopeful in Teso North Arthur Odera asked the electorate to desist from voting along party lines. He said Ruto has a good track record and that he was the only presidential hopeful capable of changing the country.
He promised to ensure farmers access better markets for their produce to generate more income and spur economic growth.
