The presidential race has attracted another aspirant — Roots Party of Kenya’s George Wajackoyah four months to the General Election.
Dr Wajackoyah said he would lead the fight against domestic violence if elected head of State.
He said most women had been greatly affected by the violence and promised to wipe out the vice “when he takes office.”
“I would not want to see any woman suffer from this kind of violence. I will lobby Parliament to pass laws to protect our women against this vice,” he said yesterday when he launched his county campaigns at Pride Inn hotel in Nairobi.
The little-known candidate said his focus would be on women and the poor.
“Having lived in the streets I understand the difficulties the common man goes through every other day,” said Dr Wajackoyah claiming that he was once a street boy.
Even though he has not appeared in the latest opinion polls, the law scholar said he was not bothered by the statistics.
He dismissed the “joker” label given to him and other less-known aspirants saying although they did not attract huge crowds, they were eligible to run for the top office.
“Everyone has to start from somewhere. Even Jesus Christ was born in a manger but grew to be the world saviour. We have begun in a small way but we will do great things,” he told the less than 100 supporters attending the launch.
Key plans
He also promised to among other things, ensure Kenyans living abroad come back to bolster the economy, overhaul the present education system and improve the transport sector.
Party officials said they would be launching similar campaigns in the 47 counties.
Dr Wajackoyah was accompanied by Kanu presidential aspirant David Mailu, who said he was still in the race for the party’s top ticket.
