TITUS Naikuni behind the KENYA AIRWAYS retrenchment DEBACLE
News07:00
Tuesday August 21, 2012-The High Court in Nairobi has temporarily stopped Kenya Airways from retrenching its employees until a suit brought by the workers union challenging the legality of the layoffs is heard and determined.
The airline which is thought to be “The Pride of Africa” and is now turning to be“Shame of Africa”, said this month it would shed off staff through voluntary retirement, redundancies, and outsourcing of non-core roles to contain soaring operation costs.
In what appears to be unanswered questions by KQ CEO Titus Naikuni and his board, Kenya Airways came up with the retrenchment proposal without any consultations with the workers’ union.
“The reason we went to court is because every employee below management level found in his/her inbox an e-mail detailing the retrenchment,” Perpetua Mponjiwa the chairperson of The Aviation and Allied Workers Union said adding that Naikuni had an upper hand in the retrenchment proposals
