Stop it until Uhuru’s ICC case is OVER: Kioi’s lawyer

Stop it until Uhuru’s ICC case is OVER: Kioi’s lawyer

Tuesday August 7, 2012 - A Kikuyu musician charged with hate speech has now been relieved, after the court’s prosecution amended one of the charges facing the musician.

In an application that was accepted by the trial court, the prosecution sought removal of the title of the song by Kamande wa Kioi, which had been wrongly titled Uhuru ni witu(Uhuru is ours).

In the song which is popular among the Kikuyu Community, Kioi is accused  of using the words, Ibrahim agia Jehova erirui athia akagirimo nawe  general wa migingo ruhio no rurari thio (When Abraham disobeyed  God, he was  ordered to be circumcised, you General of Migingo, the panga  is being sharpened), which the  prosecution alleges  are meant to cause hatred, hostility and discrimination between the Kikuyu and Luo communities.

Kioi’s lawyer Gathii Irungu said he will make an application for the case to be stopped until the trial at The Hague of four Kenyans on the 2007/08 post election violence is concluded.

Irungu said it was wrong to charge people who were expressing their creativity in music industry.
