Silver-medalist Priscah Jeptoo


2012 London Olympics, Women's Marathon Results: Kara Goucher Finishes 11th, Ethiopia's Tiki Gelana Earns Gold

The women's marathon at the 2012 London Olympics finished Sunday, and American Kara Goucher, a native of Queens, NY, finished the race in 11th place. Overall, Tiki Gelana of Ethiopia won the race and the gold medal with an Olympic-record time of 2 hours, 23 minutes and .07 seconds. Gelana edged silver-medalist Priscah Jeptoo of Kenya and bronze-medalist Tatyana Petrova Arkhipova of Russia.
Meanwhile, Goucher was the second-fastest Team USA member as she ran the marathon in 2:26:07. Her time was just behind training partner Shalane Flanagan, who finished the race in 10th place with a time of 2:25:51.
This was Goucher's second appearance at the Olympics, as she competed in the 5,000m and 10,000m in Beijing. Goucher earned Team USA's final qualifying spot during the trials.
