IN SUMMARY
  • Church has always been associated with the fight for change
  • Constitution risks being mutilated by forces of impunity
Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Sunday appealed to the Christian community to fight impunity by demanding for the full implementation of the Constitution.
While addressing worshippers of St Mathews ACK church in Eldoret, PM Odinga said the church has always been associated with the fight for change and should remain steadfast on this course to liberate Kenyans from forces of impunity.
"The new Constitution will be meaningless if it is not fully implemented to help the people of this country," he said.
He stated that the Constitution risks being mutilated just like the post independence Lancaster Constitution, which was trashed in less than twelve months to pave way for imperial presidency and centralisation of power.
PM Odinga said that the late Bishop Alexander Kipsang Muge, whose remains were interred at the church compound fought for the freedom Kenyans were currently enjoying.
"We must team up with the church and guard the freedom that Kenyans enjoy today because this did not come easy. It cost the lives of freedom champions like the late Bishop Muge, Martin Shikuku among others" he said.
He called on Kenyans to elect visionary leaders in the General Election. He said the war against poverty, corruption and impunity will remain elusive if the wrong people are elected.
Mr Odinga who earlier in the day opened the North Rift lobby said that ODM as a party is committed to ensure that the Kenyan dream as coined by the country’s founding fathers is realised.
He told worshippers that his leadership will be committed to creating an environment that enables Kenyans to be productively engaged.
