NHIF SAGA continues as Nyong’o sacks CEO over employment SCANDAL

Friday August 10,2012 - Just a day after the DAILY POST revealed an employment scandal at National Hospital Insurance Fund(NHIF), Minister of Medical Services prof Anyang’ Nyong’o has sacked  the acting Chief Executive Officer Adan A Adan for allegedly hiring his wife and other relatives illegally without following the proper laid procedures.

In a letter dated August 9, Nyong’o appointed Simeon ole Kirgotty, who is the Director of Administration at the Ministry of Medical Services, to take over from Adan, who has been heading the caretaker committee appointed in July, to sort out the mess regarding the disappearance of Sh4.6 billion meant for civil servants.

The Minister indicated in his appointment letter that he would soon be announcing a new board to run the organisation to replace the caretaker committee and the former board, which was also suspended last month.

“I have appointed you to hold brief at the NHIF while I make arrangements to appoint the new board with which you will work to superintend reforms at the Fund.  Please ensure that the Fund runs effectively, efficiently, and productively,” the Minister said in a letter to Ole Kirgotty.

Adan A Adan, who has been in the office for hardly three months, recommended the hiring of his wife, Habib Ali Maalim, together with other people believed to be his relatives and went ahead and signed the formal letters for approval, even suggesting  their grades and placement in the Fund.
