  • Aims to win presidency in first round
Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi on Sunday pledged to address insecurity along Kenya's border if he is elected the next president.
While addressing his supporters in Mount Elgon district, Mr Mudavadi said he will improve infrastructure in Counties located along the borders for investment opportunities.
“The UDF (United Democratic Forum Party) government will address insecurity along our borders as a matter of priority. This will enable residents to do business with their neighbours without appearing to engage in smuggling,” said Mr Mudavadi.
Mr Mudavadi said he aims to win the presidency in the first round of polls because he already has campaigned in 42 Counties.
Mr Mudavadi said he will not be a running mate to any presidential candidate. He said in the 2002 presidential race, former president Daniel Moi requested him to step out of the race and support Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta.
“I did that out of respect for Mzee Moi but next year’s presidential polls are a different matter and I will stick in the race to the end,” said Mr Mudavadi.
