President Mwai Kibaki has Friday re-appointed the Hon. Henry Kosgey into the Cabinet. Hon Kosgey resumes his duties at the ministry of Industrialization.
The Tinderet MP was removed from the Cabinet when he was charged with abuse of office over importation of vehicles older than eight years without consulting the National Standards Council.
It was alleged that he used his office to improperly confer a benefit to various individuals and companies by exempting 113 imported vehicles from the application of Kenya Bureau of Standards Code of Practice.
The government outlawed the importation of vehicles which are over eight years old except those for the government, diplomatic corps or those brought by returning citizens.
Kosgey stepped aside in January last year to allow investigations into allegations.
Importation of vehicles which are over eight years old is forbidden except those to be used on government projects, imported by diplomats and returning citizens.
He is said to have exempted another 41 cars imported by Pakens Ltd and four cars for Lagdera Technologies.
The minister exempted two cars belonging to Simon Maina and one for Lawrence Karanja. He allegedly committed the offences between November 19, 2009 and May 13 of 2010.
In January this year he was among the six Kenyans accused of masterminding the 2007-2008 post election violence was cleared by the International Criminal Court.
