Property tycoon Gerishon Kirima did not die in hospital overseas as alleged, a pathologist told a judge Tuesday.
Dr Peter Ndegwa said “there was no sign of any medical intervention on the body of the real estate tycoon.”
Dr Ndegwa said he sought without success any medical summary from South African and UK hospitals where Mr Kirima was said to have been treated and died.
The pathologist said samples extracted from the body for postmortem examination and sent to the government analyst “did not show any traces of medicine or toxic.”
Dr Ndegwa, who was recalled for cross-examination on his report that Mr Kirima was neglected and malnourished before his death, said “any medicine administered would have been traced by the government analyst”.
“I found that the cause of death was cardiorespiratory failure, hypostatic pneumonia and kidney disease,” he said.
He said he weighed the lungs, kidneys and the liver and found that the kidneys weighed 413gm instead of the usual 250-270. He said the left lung weighed 1000.6gm instead of the usual 500-700gms.
The pathologist said he based his report on his examination. He was being cross-examined by lawyers Kyalo Mbobu, Stephen Mwenesi, Wilfred Nyamu, Lumumba Nyaberi, Fred Ojiambo and Jotham Arwa.

“Any traces of medicine would have been indicated on the report of the government analyst dated January 27, 2011. I have also reflected it on my February 2, 2011 report,” the pathologist told Mr Justice Isaac Lenaola in the succession case between Mr Kirima’s widow Teresia Wairimu and her step-children.
All the parties are contesting two wills allegedly prepared by Mr Kirima before he died.
Dr Ndegwa denied allegations that his report contained “falsehoods and guesswork.”
