Kimemia declares August 20th a NATIONAL HOLIDAY

Friday, the 10th of August 2012 - News just in indicates that Francis Kimemia, the Acting Permanent Secretary in charge of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet has announced that Monday the 20th of August 2012 shall be a national holiday in reference to Kenyans of the Muslim faith who will be celebrating Eid ul-Fitr on that day.

Eid ul-Fitr is a Muslim holiday that is celebrated at the end of the holy month of Ramadan in which people of the Islamic faith fast from dawn till sunset in atonement of sin. The holiday is only celebrated once the moon is spotted.

Kimemia has no authority to make such a pronouncement on his accord so this can be understood as a directive from President Mwai Kibaki himself.

If confirmed, Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated that day as a national holiday in Kenya.

More details to follow.
