How MOI saved KOSGEI from ICC’s jaws

How MOI saved KOSGEI from ICC’s jaws

Tuesday August 21, 2012 - Tinderet MP Henry Kosgei is just like a proverbial rat with nine lives. He has managed to escape the ICC guillotine, the vehicle importation saga and countless land grabbing cases.

On Sunday, Kosgei, who is now the Minister of Industrialisation revealed on how he was saved by former President Moi from the jaws of International Criminal Court (ICC).

Speaking for the first time in Nandi about his dark moments that threatened his 30 year-political career, Kosgei said immediately he was named by the ICC Prosecutor Louis Moreno Ocampo in December 2010 as one of the six suspects, Mr Moi called him and advised him to hire top legal minds and remain humble throughout the court proceedings.

The Minister said he followed Mr Moi’s advice and hired a top lawyer George Oraro to lead a team of eight lawyers who worked overtime to free him of the charges.

While Ruto and Kenyatta took on Moreno Acampo accusing him of witch-hunt, Mr Kosgei stayed silent throughout until he was cleared of the accusations.

Kosgei urged Kenyans to pray for Mr Kenyatta, Mr Ruto, Mr Muthaura and Mr Sang, adding that the four should humble themselves  and allow their legal teams to argue  their cases when their trials begin in April next year.

“Be humble and avoid chest thumping and seek best strategies on how to win the case so that you can be cleared like me,” Kosgei bragged as he advised the four.\
