GITHU Muigai now turns against KIBAKI and tells him to RESPECT the law

Monday August 21, 2012 - President Kibaki’s Chief Advisor, Prof Githu Muigai has told him to comply with court orders and respect the rule of law.

Speaking on Tuesday at the launch ofJudiciary Marches Week at KICC, Prof. Muigai, who is also the Attorney General said constitutionalism cannot exist where people choose which court orders to obey and the ones to disregard.

Recently the office of the Attorney General and State House has been on logger heads over the appointment of County Commissioners.

High Court Judge Lady Justice Mumbi Ngugi had in June reversed President Kibaki’s appointment of 47 County Commissioners saying President did not have the power to appoint or deploy the county commissioners and that such appointment violated the constitutional requirement for gender equality.

State Law Office was ready to obey the ruling but Kibaki’s lieutenants went to court to appeal the decision of the High Court.

The case is due for hearing next month.
